Exceptional Care, Education and Innovation
Our team of board-certified, internationally-recognized faculty and staff lead the world’s largest veterinary hospital advanced training program. House officers practice under the faculty’s tutelage to receive advanced training in one of approximately 40 programs offered at UC Davis.
With expert technicians, professional staff members, and senior students working collaboratively to provide attentive and personalized care for every patient, the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital is recognized as global leader in innovative care delivered with the highest level of compassion.

The hospital treats more than 50,000 animals a year.
Additionally, there are more than 20,000 submissions made to the hospital’s laboratory, pharmacy, farrier, and other ancillary services. Our patients range from companion animals to livestock. View the current prospectus.

The current hospital opened in 1970 and has had two major additions, the latest completed in 2004. Since 2017, several renovations and additions have been made to the hospital, including the Advanced Veterinary Surgery Center and the Meadowview Foundation Dentistry and Oral Surgery Center (below), both of which are part of our Veterinary Medical Complex.
With construction well under way and two new facilities already open, the Veterinary Medical Complex is a visionary expansion project that will allow us to increase our caseload capacity and set a new gold standard of care, while defining the future of advanced clinical research and education.

Clinical Trials help advance the standard of care in veterinary and human medicine.
Since 2000, the VMTH has enrolled more than 500 animals in clinical trials. The success of many of these trials have contributed greatly to advancing the standard of care in veterinary and human medicine.
At any given time, there are approximately 35-50 clinical trials occurring, with programs in internal medicine, oncology, orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, dentistry and oral health, cardiology and emergency medicine.

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at UC Davis is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association — the only organization to accredit companion veterinary hospitals. Less than 15% of animal hospitals in North America achieve AAHA accreditation.
