In Memoriam—Dr. Dexter Onuoraegbunem Chukwuneke Atuora '67
Dr. Dexter Onuoraegbunem Chukwuneke Atuora, a proud alumnus of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 3rd, 2024, at the age of 85.
Dr. Atuora entered UC Davis in 1961 and graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in 1967. He was one of only two Black students in his graduating class. He continued his studies for an additional year, researching feline leukemia before leaving for Ghana in 1968.
Dr. Atuora dedicated more than 40 years of his life to veterinary medicine in Ghana. He served in the public sector before going into private practice after his retirement from public service in 1999.
His funeral will occur Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, at the St. Augustine Anglican Church in Dansoman, Accra, Ghana. The family is seeking memories and pictures of Dr. Atuora from his time at UC Davis, particularly from his time in the hockey team or at social gatherings.
