Research Development at SVM

As Research and Strategic Partnership Coordinator, Jose Franco supports the school with Research Development efforts and includes the following:

Proposal Development

Supporting team-based proposals, including:

  • Review and editing of non-technical proposal sections
  • Creating facilities descriptions, boilerplate language, and general SVM proposal template repository
  • Aligning proposals with sponsor priorities, review criteria, and compliance with funding guidelines
  • Serve as liaison between applicant(s) and funding agency to assist with inquiries
  • Serve as liaison with central Proposal Development Services team

Funding Opportunities and Updates

Through targeted emails and our weekly funding newsletter (subscribe here), identifying funding opportunities including:

  • Government, corporate, and foundation funding opportunities
  • Internal pilot funding and seed grants
  • Funding agency policy updates

Faculty Engagement and Collaborations

Facilitate meaningful connections within SVM and across campus to strengthen the research community and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.

Efforts focus on:

  • Building interdisciplinary teams for competitive funding opportunities
  • Bridging clinical and basic science faculty to advance translational research
  • Creating spaces for informal networking and idea exchange

Examples include:

  • SVM Faculty Mixers – Informal monthly gatherings during the academic year that encourage cross-departmental dialogue and collaboration (by email invitation)
  • Reaching Across the Causeway – A joint funding initiative with the School of Medicine designed to promote “cross-causeway” collaborations and bridge human and veterinary medical research. Consist of a yearly pilot funding call and symposia/networking event.
